A fundraiser has been launched to purchase a historic and iconic building on the Burin Peninsula.
Built over 100 years ago, St. Gabriel’s Hall has served the Town of Marystown as an event centre for the region throughout its lifetime, hosting concerts, festivals, weddings, and gatherings of all sorts.
The Hall, owned by the RC Episcopal Corporation of St. John’s, is listed among the assets of the RC Church bankruptcy and sell-off of property to settle sexual abuse claims from the former Mount Cashel Orphanage.
A local volunteer group, which has been responsible for the upkeep and upgrading of the Hall over the past 20 years and has had the building declared a heritage structure, is now looking to raise $250,000 to purchase it.
