Fogo Island is getting a new physician for most of August.
Central Health says that the Fogo Island Health Centre will have physician coverage until August 26.
Physician coverage will cover primary care services and some emergency services.
There will still be some temporary closures of emergency services.
It’s not a long-range solution but a welcome addition as the island’s roughly 2,100 residents are facing a situation where they have to take the ferry to see a doctor.
