Earlier Story
The Government of Quebec is offering assistance as forest fires continue on the Bay D’Espoir Highway.
While the highway is once again open for travel, Provincial Fire Duty Officer Jeff Motty says if the winds are blowing from the southwest, it’s likely they’ll close again.
He says winds will be from the Northeast this morning, however, they are forecasted to switch around in the afternoon.
Motty says our neighbours on the Labrador border are helping us out, much in the same way this province helped in BC last year.
He says they have four water bombers on deck today that will go out, with reinforcements from Quebec coming in to service any other fires that come out of the central region.
The Bay d'Espoir Highway (Rt 360) is currently open. If you must take that route, please proceed with caution. Drive slowly and do not stop. #GovNL #nltraffic #nlwx pic.twitter.com/PRuCpkDMjk
