One person is in custody after a tense situation on the Avalon Peninsula.

RCMP were called to the scene of a cabin in the Fox Marsh Road area of Mahers around 5:30 p.m. yesterday evening.

Police were engaged at the scene for nearly twelve hours, taking one person into custody shortly after 4:00 a.m. this morning.

While police say there was no threat to public safety, people were asked to avoid the area.
