Team NL pitcher Jaida Lee capped off a week of making history at the Canada Games by throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at a Blue Jays game on Saturday.
But it was anything but ceremonial for Lee, as she went into her full windup and delivered a fastball that tailed just a little outside.
The 16-year-old arrived back in St. John’s today along with other members of Team NL following week one of the Canada Games in Niagara, Ontario.
She says the Jays called her coach with the first-pitch offer even before she made history as the first female to pitch for a male team at the games.
Lee says she got the royal treatment from the Jays organization, giving her a tour of Rogers Centre and a visit to the clubhouse before the big pitch.
Lee was on the first of two flights that returned today with athletes from this province following week one of the games.
The Rugby 7s and baseball players came in around noon while athletes in basketball, beach volleyball, road and mountain cycling, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, triathlon, and wrestling arrived mid-afternoon.
They’re back!
