An athlete from Newfoundland and Labrador has been honoured as the inaugural recipient of the Pat Lechelt True Sport Award.
Tennis player Declan Walsh has been named the first-ever recipient of the award.
The award’s namesake is described as being one of the leading Chef de Missions who lead her province of Alberta to the Centennial Cup and the Jack Pelech award.
Team NL says Walsh “personifies what Pat wanted in Athletes,” noting that she would have been proud of the moment.
Team NL Chef de Mission, Gary Walsh says he “couldn’t be prouder” that another one of their athletes is being recognized in such as significant way.
