Residents of the Bishops Gardens Seniors Facility were treated to a special outing on Quidi Vidi Lake.

A small group of residents headed out on the water for a trip around the lake on Friday with the help of the non-profit organization AbleSail.

AbleSail was founded 3 years ago and provides assistance to those with physical and mental challenges who want to get out and experience sailing.

Matthew Debicki, President of AbleSail says they decided to start the program after realizing sailing could be extremely accessible once a person is helped onto the boat.

Debicki says sporting infrastructure in the province tends to be out of date, making it hard to accommodate those with accessibility issues. He says once they help the person into the boat, sailing becomes a sport that anyone can easily enjoy.
