SEA-NL is expressing disappointment that the coast of Labrador does not have dedicated resources like a Coast Guard ship and Cormorant helicopter for search and rescue.

Defence Minister Anita Anand visited 5 Wing Goose Bay this week to announce a major funding commitment to improve northern military bases.

The funding will allow for upgrades at 5 Wing Goose Bay over the next two decades.

SEA-NL’s Merv Wiseman says the NunatuKavut Community Council and the Nunatsiavut government expressed disappointment about the absence of a federal commitment to improve SAR services in Labrador.

Wiseman says SEA-NL will be calling on the Defence Minister to establish 5 Wing Goose Bay as a legitimate search and rescue base for Labrador.
