It appears as though the province’s new sugar tax is leaving a bitter taste in the mouths of consumers and retailers alike.
The tax is being collected on the retail level and the Retail Council of Canada says it’s been a difficult number of months trying to figure out what was going to be taxed and what wasn’t.
The retail council’s Director for the Atlantic region, Jim Cormier says many of their members are now “in the swing of things,” but they’re still dealing with customers angry with perceived discrepancies in the way in which the tax is being charged.
He says they’re dealing with “a lot of angry and upset customers” and is reminding people that it’s not the retailer’s fault. “We’re trying to educate the customer as well.”
