Expect a variety of changes with the passing of Queen Elizabeth II last week.
Most Canadians have taken for granted designations that haven’t changed in 70 years, requiring adjustments to things from currency to courtrooms.
The King’s representative in Newfoundland and Labrador, Judy Foote, says the required changes struck her even as the news of the Queen’s passing was sinking in.
Foote says Government House regularly issues certificates to people marking significant milestones like birthdays and anniversaries, bringing the shift into focus.
They had to change the certificates to His Majesty instead of Her Majesty. Foote says lawyers formerly recognized as Queen’s Council or QC will now be recognized as King’s Council or KC.
