Workers and unions at the Come By Chance refinery are being briefed over the next couple of days on what the owners believe happened two weeks ago when a fire roared through the process area. Eight workers were rushed to hospital with varying degrees of injury. Some are still in hospital.
Glenn Nolan, President of the Steelworkers Union Local, says it has been a traumatic time for workers and their families. When it does come time to return to work, Nolan says if anyone feels they are not ready, then they should not feel compelled to go back.
Nolan says they’re still waiting for Occupational Health and Safety to finish their investigation.
He says they need the OHS investigation in order to know what has to be fixed before anyone can return to the process area. The stop-work order applies to the process area of the refinery.
