The City of St. John’s is hosting free events next week in recognition of National Child Day.
In the leadup to the day, St. John’s is hosting free events at community centres throughout the city.
National Child Day is in recognition of Canada’s commitment to upholding the rights of children and two historic events: the 1959 signing of the UN Declaration of the Rights of the Child and the adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989.
Deputy Mayor and Council lead for community services, Sheilagh O’Leary, says all the events are free including the grand finale.
There will be a “Move It Family Fun” event at Paul Reynolds Centre on November 20 with bouncy castles, games, hot chocolate and other attractions. O’Leary says it’s important to recognize children and treat them with dignity and respect.
