The mayor of Conception Bay South shares the community’s concerns surrounding increased crime in the area.
The latest incident on Tuesday involved shots fired at a home on Uplands Road in Chamberlains.
It follows the shooting of two people in CBS in September that resulted in an emergency alert for residents of the northeast Avalon to shelter in place. One man, 31-year-old Matthew Fowler, is now facing charges in connection with that incident.
Mayor Darin Bent says the latest case is the third firearms-related incident in the community since September and he knows people are upset and concerned.
He says it’s activity they don’t want in their town and staff and resident safety is “absolutely paramount.”
Bent says he’s met with RNC Deputy Chief Stephanie Legace who informed him that all the cases are isolated and targeted, but he says that’s cold comfort to residents.
He’s been assured by the RNC that extra resources have been put into the investigation, and while the municipality plays no active role in the ongoing investigation, their role is one of support.
