Assistance packages continue to make their way to the hands of people whose homes were destroyed or rendered uninhabitable on the southwest coast after Fiona—not as fast as some would like, but the wheels do turn.
Most of the homes in question were in Port aux Basques. Mayor Brian Button says all but about 30 people have been accommodated. He acknowledges that six months is a long time to wait for anyone displaced by last September’s post-tropical storm.

He says there’s a major process to go through and it does take time.

Area MHA Andrew Parsons says the system has worked given that six months ago, they were at rock bottom.
He notes that most of the people he has heard from were satisfied with the response effort given that most either had no insurance or had insurance which did not cover them.
