Passengers at St. John’s International Airport are on the move again after Friday’s terminal fire brought commercial flight operations to a halt.
The airport terminal re-opened last night with commercial flights resuming around 7:00 after a fire broke out just before midnight Friday in the ceiling near the departures lounge.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, though the airport does not believe it to be suspicious.
Airport CEO Dennis Hogan says most services have resumed normal operations, with the exception of gates 10, 11, and 12 as repairs are underway.
36 flights were cancelled due to the terminal closure, but the airport is hoping to be caught up within the next couple of days.
Hogan says the airlines are deploying more flights and larger aircraft to service YYT.
