Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador was hoping for more of a commitment on regionalization in the 2023 provincial budget.

While President Amy Coady says MNL is happy with the increase to municipal operating grants, the one thing that was lacking in the document was regionalization.

She says they will continue to push government on the matter.

Minister of Municipal and Provincial Affairs, Krista Lynn Howell, contends that the regionalization approach is “inherent in all of the budget’s allocations.”

She says they take a lens of regionalization on all decisions, and while it may not be a specific line item it is a priority in the department.
