The provincial government has started the initial process of implementing rate mitigation for Muskrat Falls.
Government says they’ll be paying the remaining 2022 balance on the Supply Cost Variance Account of just over $190-million.
Essentially, that account monitors the difference between the cost to supply the Island Interconnected System and costs currently collected by customers.
Government says by paying the balance customers avoid having that difference recovered on their bills.
They state that significant work has been completed with respect to rate mitigation, however implementation of the final components cannot be finalized until all aspects of the Lower Churchill Project, including the Labrador-Island Link, have been commissioned.
Government says Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro has put plans in place for Labrador-Island Link high-power testing to continue until April 6.
