Several fines under the Highway Traffic Act are going up tomorrow.
The fine for speeding in school and construction zones is going up by $100.
Those fines are based on excessive speed intervals beginning at 11 km/h over the limit, to being in excess of 51km/h over.
As well, fines for racing vehicles and bicycles on highways, and stunting are also going up by $100.
Demerit points will increase from two to four points, to six points for those caught speeding in excess of 51 km/h over the posted limit. Drivers caught racing on the highway or stunting will have their vehicle seized for seven days.
The provincial government says the penalties are being strengthened to help deter dangerous and life-threatening behaviour.
