The City of St. John’s has approved the use of outdoor eating parklets ahead of the summer season.
Restaurants and lounges in the downtown and Churchill Square area will be allowed to use city land for parklets from Victoria Day weekend until the end of October.
Approved outdoor dining areas will be located along parking spaces, sidewalks, laneways and a small section of Water Street.
Councillor Jamie Korab says it’s a good opportunity for businesses outside the pedestrian mall to provide outdoor dining options.
He says the approval covers the next three years and council is willing to review it each year to explore possible expansion opportunities.
