Suicide rates, food insecurity, housing, intergenerational trauma and more. Those are some of the topics Torngat Mountains MHA Lela Evans touched on during an impassioned and impromptu speech in the House of Assembly on Wednesday.
The speech was spurred when Liberal MHA Brian Warr raised a point of order about comments Evans had made earlier in the day about suicide rates in Labrador. According to Warr, Evans had said that certain people, in this case government, aren’t affected by the situation , and because of that don’t care.
Warr rose to implore that he and the others do care about what it happening.
Evans was given time to respond, and what resulted was a passionate speech about conditions in her district.
