An RNC officer managed to avoid injury after being struck by a vehicle during an attempted arrest.
Police conducted a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle in the Campbell Avenue area of St. John’s around 8:30 p.m. Saturday evening.
The passenger of the vehicle was known to police and was wanted on several warrants. When police tried to arrest the man, the female driver drove off, striking the arresting officer.
RNC caught up with the vehicle a short time after and the woman refused to pull over. Multiple cruisers had to block the vehicle in to end the chase.
The 37-year-old driver was arrested and charged with flight from police, dangerous operation of a vehicle, and assaulting an officer with a weapon.
The 30-year old man now faces additional charges of resisting arrest and breach of court orders.
The vehicle was impounded and the two were held to appear in court.
