Boats remain tied up, and the crab fishery remains at a standstill despite a new offer made to harvesters this weekend.
The new offer, brokered with the assistance of provincial ministers Derrick Bragg and Bernard Davis, along with Premier Andrew Furey, was rejected by harvesters on the weekend.
The offer included a minimum price of $2.20 a pound—which was the same as the initial price set—but included the possibility of further increases should market conditions change. It also included a guarantee that processors would continue to buy through the remainder of the season.

The proposal included trip limits and an overage fund, something that harvesters flatly refused.
Premier Andrew Furey expressed his dismay that the “tentative agreement” reached on Saturday between the FFAW and ASP fell through. He encourages both sides to continue talking to reach a resolution as best they can.
