The Canadian Women’s Foundation has done some research on emergency preparedness and disaster plans and found them lacking in one key area.
Paulette Senior, CEO and President of the Canadian Women’s Foundation, reviewed 13 emergency plans in this province.
It’s Emergency Preparedness Week in Canada but their review found not one of them mention the words woman, gender, sex or violence. Senior sees that as a problem, saying the emergency plans miss the mark and can leave vulnerable groups of people in harm’s way during time of crisis.
She says a lot more can be done not only in Canada but around the world, something we learned during the pandemic.
