5 Wing Goose Bay is starting its fly control program this week and continuing through to late August.

The program is aimed at reducing mosquito and black fly larvae in their habitats before they emerge into a biting scourge.

Sites where mosquito larvae are known to breed will be treated from both the ground and the air with a biological insecticide by a team of personnel.

The insecticide is considered safe and is registered and used in Canada for the control of mosquitoes and black flies.

It kills mosquito and black fly larvae only and is entirely biodegradable in a matter of a few days according to the Canadian Armed Forces.
