The English School District’s Superintendent of Schools doesn’t believe a replacement of Frank Roberts Junior High in CBS is required at this time, and it is not something that they have requested.
Students and parents protested conditions at the school yesterday, and made calls for a new school to be built.
They say there are health and safety issues—including a rat problem and air quality, as well as structural issues that include accessibility for special needs students.
The school district and the province have refuted claims of health and safety issues at the school—with recent inspection reports being published to the school’s website.
Terry Hall of the NLESD says they are always open to having new infrastructure built, but at this time it is not something that they have requested.
He says that is part of a bigger conversation that needs to happen with government. Hall says it is not in his purview to make any comment on that, only to say that the current school is safe and is accommodating current students and staff.

Sabrina Greene
School Council Member and parent Sabrina Greene says the current situation is frustrating, noting that they wrote government and sent them pictures of the problems last year.
She alleges that government isn’t being truthful about why a new school isn’t being built, and says they don’t want to hear that such conditions are acceptable.
