A growing number of organizations are standing up and saying no to an extremist movement that is leaving many citizens fearful for their safety.
The Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers’ Association says it will not stand silently by while members are attacked for being who they are, and for creating safe spaces for their students.
The NLTA says 2SLGBTQIA+ rights are human rights and misinformation and disinformation being circulated among some groups is grounded in hate.
Meanwhile, the Human Rights Commission says an attack on inclusive education and 2SLGBTQIA+ community members is a human rights concern.

The commission says educating children and young people on their gender expression, gender identity and sexual orientation is not only helping them identify themselves in the world, but also raising awareness of their human rights.
The Human Rights Commission says it stands in solidarity with the English Language School District and applauds the board for creating safe spaces for students to identify themselves.
The commission supports inclusive education and is encouraging people who feel they have been treated unfairly in a protected area to contact their office for support.
A protest is reportedly planned at Confederation Building that is motivated by exclusivity, hatred, and injustice, and the Human Rights Commission will be in attendance to counter-protest hatred and stand with 2SLGBTQIA+ members, supports and allies.

Those of us with a voice, in a position to use it, must together take a strong stand against hate. We must ensure a safe environment in our schools. We must correct dis-information being circulated.
We are allies.
