Members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada who work for the Canada Revenue Agency and Treasury Board have voted to ratify their new collective agreements.
A news release issued by the union stated members voted “overwhelmingly” in favour of the deals.
The news comes after nearly two years of bargaining that led to Canada’s largest strike by federal workers.
PSAC announced on May 1st that it had reached a tentative agreement with the government on a new contract for more than 120,000 Treasury Board workers in four bargaining groups — technical services, education and library science, operational services and program and administrative services.
Days later, the union also reached a tentative agreement on a new contract for more than 35,000 workers at CRA.
The deals include compounded wage increases totalling 12.6 per cent in the four-year deal, as well as new protections against contracting out. They also include provisions around working remotely, detailed in a letter outside the collective agreement.
PSAC said union officials will meet with Treasury Board and CRA representatives to sign the new agreements in the coming weeks.
All non-monetary items will take effect immediately after signing, with the government then given 180 days to raise workers’ pay to the new rates and provide them with retro pay for the time elapsed since the expiry of previous contracts.
