Smokey, hazy conditions abound in most areas of the province today with air quality alerts out for a good chunk of territory because of wildfires in Quebec.
Environment Canada says air quality will suffer on the west coast and in central Newfoundland on the island, and in Labrador West and most of the interior of Labrador.
David Neal, a meteorologist with the Gander Weather Office, says these fires are much closer in proximity than the ones a couple of months ago out west.
Neal says the effect is most profound on Labrador West.
The air will stay fairly high up in the atmosphere is most areas but it may be nearer the surface in western Labrador.
The smoke brings greyish skies and partially blocks the sun.
