The owner of the Scully iron ore mine in Wabush is going to explore the possibility building a new plant at the site to remove manganese from the ore. Manganese is in high demand in Canada.
The federal government is providing $1.25 million to Tacora Resources to plan the feasibility of a manganese sulfate purification plant to remove manganese and silica from their products, resulting in a higher-grade ore.
