An NHLer from this province is looking forward to the season ahead after landing a new gig with the Minnesota Wild.
Corner Brook native Jason King was hired on as the Wild’s assistant coach last week after spending three seasons behind the bench for the Vancouver Canucks.
King told VOCM News that he previously expressed interest in joining the team. Then he got a call from the front office and the deal was done within a week.
He says Minnesota felt like a great fit for him and his family and admires the team’s winning culture and staff.
King is no stranger to the hockey world. He played three seasons with the Vancouver Canucks and Anaheim Ducks in the early 2000s. He then began coaching with the AHL’s St. John’s Ice Caps, where he also spent a season as Director of Hockey Operations.
He always looked at being an assistant coach in the NHL as dream job. He hopes to pass along his passion and knowledge to younger players and help guide the organization to a championship.
