The issue of public safety was on the table yesterday for the country’s premiers.
Premiers from across the country, including Premier Andrew Furey, are in Winnipeg for the Council of the Federation meetings.
Today is the last day of meetings.
Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson says the discussions yesterday surrounding building stronger communities, including shared public safety challenges coming from violent crime. She says the federal government needs to reform the federal criminal code.
Stefanson says people in every province and territory should not have to wait any longer. She says the system needs to better target criminals using guns and other weapons, as well as repeat violent offenders.
