The Liberal MP for Avalon is supporting the four Atlantic provinces in their attempt to have Ottawa reconsider the impact the new Clean Fuels Strategy will have on the region.
According to the Parliamentary Budget Officer the new regulations will have a disproportionate impact on the region, with local residents paying up to three times as much as those in other provinces.
Ken McDonald is among those calling for a different approach to the region, including Newfoundland and Labrador.
He’d like to see the federal minister sit down with representatives of the four Atlantic provinces and develop a strategy tailored to the Atlantic provinces.
Unfortunately, McDonald says he hasn’t seem much progress on that front.
He knows that Minister Guilbeault met with the premiers but they “parted ways, agreeing to disagree.”
