Jiffy Cabs has launched a new app in hopes of getting ahead of the potential arrival of ride-sharing services.
The new app allows customers to request a cab from their phone, track its location, and get an estimate on fare costs.
Dispatch Manager Jay Dunn says downloads have been high and feedback has been positive so far.
He says the app puts them in a good place to compete against companies like Uber.
He says they share the same features, but they apply any additional service fees—making them a cheaper option.
Owner Chris Hollett believes being local gives them the edge over large mainland-based companies. He says it would probably be hard to get hold of a representative for these major brands, but it’s not an issue for them as they’re locally available to residents.
