A man who hit the gas instead of the brakes has been apprehended by metro police despite trying to give officers the slip.

The RNC flashed the lights on a vehicle in the west end of St. John’s at about 3:30 this morning but the driver fled at a high rate of speed.

Another officer spotted the car a short time later but this time the occupants got out and ran off on foot. The RNC, including K9, caught up with the 22-year-old driver.

He now faces charges of flight from police, dangerous operation of a vehicle and resisting arrest. He was released to appear in court at a later date.
