An athlete from Labrador is reflecting on what it means to him to compete at this year’s North American Indigenous Games.
Over 100 competitors from this province have converged on Nova Scotia for the games, which will see athletes from over 750 Indigenous Nations participate.
Among them is Shane Winters, a volleyball player from Makkovik.
Winters has been playing the sport since he was in elementary school.
He recalls watching other people from the community head off to the games, and hoping that he could one day participate.
