A man is facing weapons charges after police responded to a tent in downtown St. John’s.
On Sunday, July 16, shortly before 11:00 a.m., officers were called to Livingstone Street where a tent had been erected. Police were told of suspicious activity ongoing at the tent.
As a result of the investigation, a 20-year-old man was arrested and charged with possession of a prohibited weapon.
He was released to appear in court at a later date as the investigation continues.

Meanwhile, St. John’s resident Mark Wilson alleged on VOCM Open Line with Linda Swain, that people set up the tent, which was located in the backyard of city hall and on NL Housing Property, and were cooking cocaine down to crack inside and selling it.
He says the event is highlighting ongoing safety concerns in a complex neighbourhood.
Wilson believes things have reached a “crisis” level, and is calling on the premier, mayor, and other elected officials to step up and act.
He suggests starting a non-profit that will hold politicians’ feet to the fire and push for change.
