There is a fire ban in the metro region, but some are still choosing to have open flame despite warnings from the fire department.
St. John’s Regional Fire Department first issued the ban late Friday afternoon.
In the 24 hours leading up to 5:30 Sunday morning, St. John’s Regional responded to five bonfires in the region.
Between 5:30 Friday morning and 5:30 Saturday morning the department responded to five bonfire calls, though it isn’t known which, if any, of those occurred after the ban was issued.
The current ban covers St. John’s, Paradise and Mount Pearl, and will last for a minimum of seven days.
It prohibits any open fires, including backyard firepits, charcoal barbecues, and chimeneas.
