Heritage NL is looking for stories from the public regarding the historic railway station building in Avondale.
The structure, which dates to the early to mid 1880s, is the focus of a research project conducted by historic buildings researcher Emlyn Tuck.
She says one woman they interviewed provided them some information and memories from her own mother who ran the snack bar at the station in the 1930s and 40s.
Tuck calls it one of her favourite stories. The woman told them her mother would prepare sandwiches, biscuits, candy, gum and pop bottles and have them ready for passengers who came in on the trains. The woman would stay in a room upstairs if the trains came in late at night, or very early in the morning.
Tuck and Heritage NL are inviting anyone with more stories to tell to contact them by email at research@heritagenl.ca through social media or through a survey link.
