An organization in this province is carrying the memory of one of the victims of the Montreal Massacre.
On December 6, 1989, a gunman entered Montreal’s Ecole Polytechnique, killing 14 young women, most of them engineering students. The shocking crime saw the gunman seek out female students and led to the creation of the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
Women in Science and Engineering NL have been running a program dedicated to Barbara Daigneault—a 22-year-old engineering student killed in the tragedy.
Past president of the organization, Carolyn Emerson, says they heard from Daigneault’s family.
She says Daigneault’s parents were touched by the gesture and that their daughter continued to be remembered.
