The fishing industry is hoping to learn more information today about the resurrection of the redfish fishery in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.
DFO is going to allow that fishery to resume after being dormant for 30 years.
The Redfish Advisory Committee is scheduled to meet today to hammer out some of the detail, including total allowable catch. The larger year-round boats, which fish offshore, has most of the quota.
Sylvie Lapointe of the Atlantic Groundfish Council, which represents that side of the industry, says there is a lot of work ahead to prepare for redfish including developing markets in Europe and Asia.
She says the timelines are quite challenging.
