Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services says it is concerning to hear of legal issues following around the Compass Group internationally, but they haven’t been experiencing any problems here.
COO of the Eastern Urban Zone, Ron Johnson, confirms that they have an $800,000 contract with Compass for the management of things such as food services and housekeeping in the eastern zone.
He says all workers are employed with the health authority, and the contract is solely for administration.
When questioned about legal settlements and employee issues involving Compass and its subsidiaries at the international level, Johnson says the stories are concerning, but they did their due diligence when issuing the RFP for the contract.
He says the company has been providing services in the St. John’s area for about 20 years and there has never been an issue.
