The provincial government is implementing two new strategies to increase the success of provincial businesses in getting government contracts.
The Minister Responsible for the Public Procurement Agency, John Abbott, announced the Newfoundland and Labrador First Procurement Strategy and the Sustainable Procurement Strategy earlier today.
NL First Strategy will see the provincial preference discount maintained, the open call threshold increased, the promotion of trade agreement exemptions and reducing the use of bid bonds.
The Sustainable Strategy will focus on taking sustainability issues into account for procuring goods, services and construction.
President of Triware Technologies, Wally O’Neill, says getting government contracts also helps their business in the private sector.
He says government are often leaders in certain sectors, so receiving those public contracts show their expertise to the private sector.
