The Avalon Celtics organization says it is working through a “very challenging electrical supply issue that is not resolved”, although operations did resume yesterday.
The problem forced the temporary closure of the DF Barnes Arena last week and through the weekend during the height of the busy minor hockey season.
The problem is reportedly as a result of a short in the underground wire that feeds the arena.
The Celtics provided an update online this week indicating that the rink is currently operating on a generator which was brought in to save the ice surface and keep operations going.
The Celtics admit that the situation is “uncharted territory” and future disruptions are possible.
They thank their players and families for their patience.
