A local company is poised to breath new life into an enterprise that recently fell on hard times.
Harbour Grace Ocean Enterprises built a successful business in the historic town, but ran into financial trouble with fixed contracts that didn’t leave room for the sudden hike in costs as a result of the pandemic.
It filed for creditor protection and Blaine Sullivan, of Ocean Choice International fame, has been selected by a court monitor as the successful bidder for the facility.
However, a bid that came in after the January 29th deadline is now being considered by Supreme Court Justice Sandy MacDonald.
He is expected to decide whether to allow the bid on Monday morning.
Sullivan, meanwhile, is seeking to make the purchase through his own company, Green Skiff Investments. He notes while the sale hasn’t been finalized yet they’re hoping to continue to grow and build business for the yard.
“They’ve put out some really high quality vessels and they have a good location, a good workforce there,” he said. “We’re certainly looking forward to getting an opportunity to work with them.”
