A fishing trawler that ran aground on the south coast remains stuck despite the coast guards efforts.
The vessel, named the Cape Cordell, is listing as it sits in the waters off Fortune about 100-feet from shore after running aground early this morning.
Four crew members remain onboard and the coast guard remain in contact with the captain after efforts to tow the ship back into open water proved futile.
Mark Gould, Deputy Superintendent of Search and Rescue Coordination , Supervising Operations at the Maritime Rescue Subcentre in St. John’s, says the weather conditions and the falling tide are causing the vessel to remain stuck.
He says the high winds, waves and the tide have pushed the ship close to the shore, so until conditions significantly improve, they will not have any luck pulling the ship out.
