Almost 40 centimetres is on the ground in the metro region as the two-day storm enters its final leg.
Some areas of northeast Newfoundland are reporting 60 cm or more of the white stuff as the clean-up from the bulk of the precipitation is still underway, compounded by a mix of wet snow weighing down shovelfuls.
Meteorologist with the Gander Weather Office, David Neil, says the storm still has some more in store for eastern Newfoundland.
He says there is some more snow off and on throughout the night, turning to light flurries tomorrow morning.
There will be some reprieve Saturday, but Neil warns they are tracking a system for Sunday that may bring some more snow to eastern Newfoundland.
RCMP Constable Mark House, who has been on the roads on the Avalon, says if you can, avoid driving this evening. He advises those that must be on the road to dial the speed back.
He says with all the slush and snow, if you have to brake hard and your speed is up, you will “suffer the consequences”.
