The Avalon Peninsula and others parts of eastern Newfoundland will be in for some snow overnight Saturday into Sunday, but there’s no estimate of the amount yet.
The Gander region was the snowmaking capital this week with 85 cms measured at the airport over the past couple of days. The dumping has forced officials to keep some schools closed in the region today, including Gander Academy, Gander Elementary, Gander Collegiate, St. Paul’s Intermediate and Lakewood Academy.
The law courts in Gander are also closed for the remainder of the day.
The metro region and Terra Nova Park area registered closer to 50 cms of snow this week.
Environment Canada says high winds compounded matters, including gusts as high as 115 km/h in Bonavista, 87 km/h around Gander, and 85 km/h in the St. John’s metro region.
