Newfoundland and Labrador is the only scheduled Canadian stop for one of the world’s longest cruise ship trips.
The Serenade of the Seas is on a nine month journey, having recently left Miami with 150 ports in 60 countries on its itinerary. Memorial University professor and cruise ship expert Ross Klein says the Royal Caribbean cruise is scheduled to stop in St. John’s on August 31st as its only port of call between Greenland and New York.
Klein says it will be curious to see if the ship sticks to its ambitious itinerary given recent world events.
The ship is scheduled to go through the Red Sea, which many ships are currently avoiding because of missile attacks on marine traffic by the Houthis. “It will be curious whether the ship sticks to its itinerary,” says Klein, “if it sticks to it, what kind of precautions are they going to take to ensure the safety of the ship…and all the people on board?”
