The commute home was a messy one for many on the northeast Avalon yesterday thanks to a system that surprised many, including the forecasters.
Meteorologist Ian Hubbard says a low offshore that was expected to result in a few flurries for the easternmost part of the province, moved farther west than expected and resulted in some 10-14 cm of light, fluffy snow for the metro region.
That caught many on the northeast Avalon unaware and made for a treacherous commute home.
One gentleman in the Goulds had a scheduled appointment in Bay Bulls late yesterday afternoon, and told VOCM Open Line he couldn’t believe the condition of the road.
“It took us over one hour to drive up to it, never laid an eye on a plow anywhere, and when we came out of the clinic at 6:00 o’clock at night we met two city plows coming out of St. John’s, which I thought ‘kind of late isn’t it to plow the road now?”
