Teacher Noel Strapp has lost his appeal of sexual assault convictions involving a former student.
Forty-year-old Strapp was sentenced to four years in prison in July of 2022 for offences against a student at Roncalli High in Avondale between 2014 and 2016.
He was convicted of sexual exploitation and sexual assault.
The appeal process got underway last fall, with Strapp’s lawyer Ian Patey arguing that the trial was unfairly in favour of the complainant and that a new trial should be ordered.
In its unanimous decision released this afternoon, a three-member panel of the province’s Appeal Court concluded that Strapp failed to demonstrate that the trial judge made errors in her handling of the case, and dismissed the appeal.
Strapp still has the option of appealing to the Supreme Court of Canada.
